Khotyn Fortress State Historical and Architectural Reserve

The State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Khotynska Fortress" was created in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 12, 2000 No. 1539 "On the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Khotynska Fortress". In accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 20, 2011 No. 1032-r "On the transfer of integral property complexes of historical and cultural reserves to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Culture", the reserve was transferred to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The reserve is a scientific-research and cultural-educational institution that ensures the identification, research, preservation, protection, use and popularization of the architectural monument of national importance - the complex of buildings of the fortress of the 13th-18th centuries, the city of Khotyn (protection No. 803, Cabinet Resolution of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR No. 970 dated August 24, 1967.).

The Khotyn fortress has long attracted the attention of researchers, travelers and simple lovers of antiquity. Despite bright periods, the fortress experienced periods of decline and oblivion more than once. In the Soviet period, it was studied by the famous archaeologist B.O. Tymoshchuk, where students of higher educational institutions took their internships. It was at this time that the Khotyn Fortress became the location for the filming of such famous films as: "Zakhar Berkut", "The Little Mermaid", "Arrows of Robinhood", "The Ballad of the Valiant Knight Ivanhoe", "The Three Musketeers", "Yassa" and many others. Taking into account the ancient history and rich traditions of the city, on October 12, 2000, by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Khotyn Fortress" was established.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, on September 21, 2002, the city of Khotyn celebrated its 1000th anniversary. Interest in the Khotyn Fortress, on the part of the directors, is not lost even now. Also, in 2007, the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Khotyn Fortress" became a Nominee of the All-Ukrainian action "Seven Wonders of Ukraine". For the second time, already in 2011, the Khotyn Fortress became the Winner of the All-Ukrainian campaign "Seven Wonders of Ukraine: Castles, Fortresses, Palaces". In 2010 - 2011, the international festival of medieval knightly battles "Battle of Nations" was held on the territory of the reserve. In 2012-2013, the organizers of the "Battle of Nations" held a new festival "Medieval Khotyn" in the fortress.
